Garden Programs

IslandWood's School Overnight Program:

Located on Bainbridge Island near Seattle in Washington State, IslandWood is a unique 255-acre outdoor learning center designed to provide exceptional learning experiences and inspire lifelong environmental and community stewardship. The School Overnight Program offers students 4th through 6th grade the unique opportunity of a 4-day residential, educational experience at a true school in the woods. Students are taught a variety of subjects by IslandWood graduate student instructors, as well as dedicated staff, and get to experience the amazing facilities, food, and natural beauty that is offered.

Garden activities and lessons are also incorporated into the SOP curriculum, and are considered a valuable component to the student experience. 75% of SOP students spend some time in the garden, learning about topics such as food production, harvest, sustainability, local and organic, compost, nutrient cycling, local farms, ecosystem connections, and farm to table connections.

Summer Camps at IslandWood:

In addition to SOP, IslandWood offers summer day camps to students ages K - 6th grade. Come roll up your sleeves aand see where your food actually comes from. Explore edible plants in the forest, harvest exotic species from the garden, and visit a working farm. You'll uncover where your food comes from and where it goes after you eat it!
